Our Rich History

St. Andrew’s began with members from our downtown sister church, St. Paul. The name St. Andrew’s was chosen because the organizational members felt their purpose was to bring new people to Christ, just as the disciple St. Andrew did.

The first service was held on Sunday, June 3,1956 in the cafeteria of Orangeburg High School. There were originally about 75 people who showed an interest in the early organizational meetings. On September 3,1956 there were 159 members. During the first full conference year, 1956-57, 117 members were added to the rolls. And by August 31,1957 the membership was 337. Over the years the church has had on its rolls over 850 people.

St. Andrew’s has had a marvelous history of service to our Lord through the development of a preschool. We now have parents who were children in the preschool bringing their children.

Our Ministries

We at St. Andrew's strive for all of our doors to be open to the community, both in worship and in service.

St. Andrew's structures our ministries around the United Methodist Church's N.O.W. Ministries ideology. Our ministries strive to Nurture our congregation, Outreach to our communities, and Witness to those that need the Word and grace of God the most. From our Shepherd's Ministry to our Blessing Box, from our United Women in Faith to our Methodist Youth Fellowship and United Methodist Men, from our Sunday Bible studies to our Chancel Choir, we are loving God by loving our neighbors.

A Message from the Pastor

We are God’s listening people,

listening for God to call us to our next loving act.

Life is a school of love, and we are all just leaning to love well, like Jesus loved, sacrificially.

Life is complicated,

so we keep our worship and mission simple,

we love God by loving our neighbor.

We are on a cruciform journey,

to become gentle and humble like Jesus

by serving our world.

What spiritual adventure will God take us on next?

Come find out together as we listen to God and to each other, listen for our next call to be part of what God is already doing in our neighborhood.
